PowellsWood is a proud sponsor of the Friends of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest.
At PowellsWood we encourage kids to explore and connect with nature because we know that experiencing natural spaces changes their view of the world. Whether through turning over a leaf to find the insects living below, watching hatchling ducks, or learning the difference between native and invasive plants, a child’s life is changed by exploration. The knowledge and appreciation that children gain through these experiences can transform them into good stewards of our planet.
That’s why PowellsWood has formed a special partnership in support of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest, a 55,000-acre reserve in Costa Rica that was created by the fundraising efforts of kids from around the globe and which protects some of Earth’s most biodiverse habitat. Like PowellsWood, Friends of the Children’s Eternal Rainforest supports nature education for kids and gives them the opportunity to get involved in protecting our world’s most important places.
Our partnership helps children understand that by providing habitat needed by birds and insects migrating through the Pacific Flyway where PowellsWood is located, this garden and the creatures in it are connected to a much larger world. (See diagram at right.) After all, many of the seasonal birds we see, like the Olive-sided Flycatcher and the Western Tanager, are on their way to the Children’s Eternal Rainforest and beyond!
